Chickens

Our Chicken Adventures! First batch was random feed store pullets, then purebred Jersey Giants from Sand Hill Preservation.

Geese

My Babies!! I bought them kind of randomly at Lytle Feed just before going to visit my sick grandpa during Easter 2011 and brought them with me to cheer him up. The nice little old lady from there used a penny on a string pendulum to determine gender. Her predictions were 100% accurate! I could tell them apart because the boy's forehead was a little darker as a baby and that's the one she predicted as male. He was always most fond of me so I named him Cutie. The girl was always a bit skittish for some reason, but I named her Sweetie-Pie.

Their job is to beautify the pond, lay eggs, and warn us  and the chickens of dangerous intruders.

Pygmy Goats - in memory

Poseur and Mama, our first goats! Both sold, along with all their kids except for Sunshine, Mama's kid by Sandstorm.

Pigs - in memory

It all started with Bella, a mini vietnamese potbelly pig our friend Mando gave us in 2011.

In the summer of the next year we got Little Pig from Harper, TX. Then the madness began!

We sold a very pregnant Bella  in 2012 to some wonderful people at Adams Acres and later Little Pig  in 2014 because we just  couldn't handle Little pig humping the barbecue pit and knocking down the trash can every morning when Bella left as he somehow got out of the yard again and again. We knew if we got him a girlfriend it would be 2 litters a year of piglets, so we rehomed him.

Cats - in memory

Our two sweet cats Hemlock and Freako. They roam around outside at night and come in to sleep during the day. They aren't allowed back in at night anymore since they kept bringing us "presents" - mostly-live mice! Yuck!

Sometime in September 2013 Freako never came home again. Hemlock lost his cuddle pal. May 2014 we brought home Guido, the cat of a work friend to become Hemlock's new pal. They got along ok, but Guido also never came back from the woods.

Lastly, Hemlock, simply disappeared and never returned. We found no signs of them. We really miss them. They probably got caught by a neighbor's varmint trap and killed...

Donkey - in memory

Our Guardian Angel is the sweetest donk ever...unless you're a canine or look like one! She's our security guard, chasing off foxes and other baddies that come around here. She and Coconut fight over who's the Queen of the Field. She's also on landscaping duty.
She still misses Coconut and Honey.

She went to a new home a few months after the cows were sold. She was too lonely.

Cows - in memory

Honey and Coconut were our landscapers and brush stompers. We bought Honey pregnant with Coconut from a guy in Pleasanton in Spring of 2011 and she had her baby that Fall. She didn't look so good then, but we brought her home anyway and now she looks great.

We were forced to sell Coconut and Honey because we just couldn't afford the hay anymore in December 2013. They went to a home that had a better pasture than ours, so we're happy for them, though we miss them. Next time we'll have an improved pasture.
